Teaser Tuesdays (11-01-11 edition)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Today's Teaser:
Walton used the forward momentum to his advantage, however, and, arms akimbo, pirouetted from the deck and grabbed a lowhanging limb. Those ballet lessons had done a bit of good, after all.
-- Smonk by Tom Franklin, page 65

Wow! All I have to say about this book so far is...Wow! I don't think I've ever read a book so shockingly offensive and crass, and yet entertaining! I've wanted to read this book ever since I discovered that it was a favorite of Alden Bell. I read Alden Bell's book The Reapers are the Angels, and I fell in love with the main character Temple. After learning that Alden loved the book Smonk, I read the book synopsis and could see the influence it had on Alden's own The Reapers are the Angels. I decided almost immediately that I wanted to read it. Wow! I think this one is going to be a wild ride!

Sounds to be thoughtfully written.

I love the incongruity of the ominous book cover and the unexpected teaser. Your journey to finding this book is a nice anecdote as well!
