Teaser Tuesday (05/12/09 edition)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Today's Teaser:
The cheap theater in Culiacan was known as Las Pulgas because it was so filthy you could get fleas from going there. But Garcia-Garcia had put a corrugated tin roof over his beloved Pedro Infante, leaving open only the last four feet between the tops of the cinderblock walls and the angled roof lest the overwhelming body heat condense on the tin and drop on the audience in a small salty squall.

(Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea, page 49)

(Sorry. I just couldn't pass up the revolting imagery of a salty sweat squall! And fleas! Now carry on...)
