ABANDONED: The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Okay. I'm putting this one back up on the shelf for awhile. I just can't get into it right now. The clipped, abbreviated writing style drives me crazy! I will try to pick it up again at a later date and see if I do better with it the second time around. I'm so disappointed! This sounded SO like my kind of book!

Oh, please stay with it! It's so, so good. I've hated everything I've ever read by McCarthy EXCEPT The Road. It's depressing, but well worth the effort.

I have to read this sometime in December because it's for one of my read your own book challenges. I hope I can make it through!!!!

I haven't read this one myself, but from the reviews that I have read it seems this is one that you will either love or hate. One of my friends said she couldn't put the book down but I have heard of many on the opposite side of the spectrum.

McCarthy's writing style is an acquired taste, that's for sure. My first foray into his work was his debut novel, The Orchard Keeper, which I just did not like at all. But, I've since fallen in love with The Road and No Country for Old Men. Give the book a second chance some time down the line, and chances are good that you will enjoy it more--knowing now what to expect from the author.

I have never read anything by McCarthy and honestly, I don't think I will anytime soon. From all I heard about his style, his books are just too depressing for me.
