Walton used the forward momentum to his advantage, however, and, arms akimbo, pirouetted from the deck and grabbed a lowhanging limb. Those ballet lessons had done a bit of good, after all.-- Smonk by Tom Franklin, page 65
Wow! All I have to say about this book so far is...Wow! I don't think I've ever read a book so shockingly offensive and crass, and yet entertaining! I've wanted to read this book ever since I discovered that it was a favorite of Alden Bell. I read Alden Bell's book The Reapers are the Angels, and I fell in love with the main character Temple. After learning that Alden loved the book Smonk, I read the book synopsis and could see the influence it had on Alden's own The Reapers are the Angels. I decided almost immediately that I wanted to read it. Wow! I think this one is going to be a wild ride!

Sounds to be thoughtfully written.
I love the incongruity of the ominous book cover and the unexpected teaser. Your journey to finding this book is a nice anecdote as well!
